I’m gonna keep this post short and simple – just like the very concept of “I am” statements.
How often to you tell yourself how strong, capable, and amazing you are?
It might seem silly at first, but saying affirmations really is a quick and easy way to boost your confidence, inspire you, and help you heal.
It’s a way to remind yourself who you are, and who you want to be. Are you kind? Are you funny? Are you clever? Tell yourself!
You might have to “fake it til you make it” at first, but the more you do it, the more you’ll start to see your mindset shift into one of confidence and inner peace.
It’s as simple as going in front of a mirror and telling yourself,
“I am lovely. I am loving. I am lovable.“

Affirmations Are a Starting Point
To be clear, just saying things like “I am ready for the day ahead” won’t magically make you prepared for any situation.
Affirmations are a starting point – a place of inspiration from which you can bounce into action.
It’s the sort of thing where you say these “I am” statements, and then you prove them to be true as you go about your life and honor the things you’ve affirmed.
For example, the more you tell yourself “I am attractive”, the more likely you’ll be to notice your features and traits (both physical and abstract) that make you attractive in your own way. And the more you start to feel attractive, the more you’ll behave with confidence–which is a highly attractive quality!
Thus, your “I am” statements become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
This is also why it’s important to avoid negative self-talk; if you tell yourself you’re an angry person, you’re likely going to notice your anger and amplify it as a result.
Affirm the best version of yourself!
And it’s okay if some of these affirmations don’t feel true at first. The point is to take that first step in shifting your mindset, and the rest will follow.
Shifting your mindset can help you shift your life. And for some, affirmations are an excellent starting point.
How To Use Affirmations
Say them out loud, if you can, and preferably in front of a mirror. If you’re surrounded by people and worried about being overheard, say them in your head, or under your breath.
You can try writing them down, too. Or, if you use sign language, sign them to yourself!
When To Use Affirmations
You can set aside time to say your “I am” affirmations as part of a morning routine, throughout the day as the need arises, or at night before you crawl into bed.
Now, I’ve come up with 15 “I am” statements you can use, but I believe that affirmations can be even more effective when you come up with them yourself.
Use this list as inspiration to make your own affirmations, specific to you and your life.
You can customize the ones I list below, using words and phrases that resonate most with you, or you can come up with entirely new ones.
Try different “I am” statements out for a few days, and if you like them, make them a regular part of your self care routine!
