April 2023 is here already!
It’s hard to believe we’re already a quarter of the way through the year.
I’ve been prioritizing my education and advancing other aspects of my career, so my blog hasn’t seen much activity besides these monthly motivation posts.
Hopefully I’ll get another, non-monthly motivation post up this month, but for now, here’s some inspiration for April!
As always, you’re welcome to join me in choosing a Word, Song, and Color Scheme of the Month.
You can even borrow mine if they resonate with you!
Let’s dive in.
April 2023 Word of the Month:

My Word of the Month for April 2023 is: Listen.
I chose this word as a reminder to listen to myself, firstly.
To honor my personal values, and pay attention to my motivations.
I want to notice what I’m feeling in each moment and where those feelings are coming from.
It’s also an encouragement to practice active listening with others.
I want to be fully present in conversations.
To put the phone down and pay attention.
To set aside any assumptions and actually listen to what other people are saying.
In a world where we can express ourselves as soon as we get an urge, I want to shift my focus.
Less worrying about expressing myself and being heard.
More conscious decisions to listen.
April 2023 Song of the Month:
My Song of the Month for April 2023 is: Ordinary Life by Ezra Furman.
This is one of my favorite songs to listen to when I’m tempted to let hopelessness consume me.
Luckily, it’s been quite a while since I’ve fallen into such a deep pit of despair as this song implies.
But whenever I feel the slightest tug in that depressive direction, I remember these lyrics:
“You’ve gotta make it new
You’ve gotta keep it new to keep it true
And you’re allowed to do anything you’ve gotta do
Just ’cause you’re sick of your ordinary life
Doesn’t mean you should bottle up and die
Lose your way completely but stay alive”
It is exhausting living in a capitalist society that pushes the prioritization of profit over a passion for people. (Man, I love alliteration.)
This short and emotionally charged song reminds me that I’m not alone in those feelings.
It’s a reminder that bottling negative emotions up and becoming apathetic isn’t a good way to cope.
That the most important thing you can do is keep going, even when it’s hard.
You don’t have to have it all figured out.
You can even “lose your way completely”, but as long as you keep going, there’s hope for the future.
April 2023 Color Scheme of the Month:

My Color Scheme for the Month of April 2023 is: Blue and purple.
These colors are calming, reflective, and even spiritual.
As we head into April, I want to be more intentional in how I go about my days.
More introspective, noticing the way I feel and where my feelings stem from.
I want to be in tune with my emotions.
I want to handle myself gently and lovingly, and to slow down and just live in each moment.
May your April be full of peace and reflection.
Sincerely,
